Minna Lacey's The Story Of The Olympics is aimed firmly at emerging readers. Perfect.
This is a great one for those who are just beginning to approach small chapter books with some confidence, and makes a pleasant change from fiction. Divided in to eight chapters Lacey gives an informative guide to the Olympics which is perfect for those with a hunger for knowledge.
Stand out chapters include 'Olympic Heroes' which tells the stories of Carl Lewis, Jessie Owens, Mark Spitz and Steven Redgrave to name a few. Whilst the opening chapters focus on the Greek origins of the Olympic Games, others entitled 'Pomp and Ceremony together with 'A grand plan' ensure that all aspects of the games are covered!
The illustrations form Paddy Mounter are quirky, fun and informative.
