My Dad Thinks he's Funny

Dad jokes.  Know them?  The ones that make your eyes roll and force you to emit a loud sigh?!  Ensure Dad reads this one at bedtime!!

This book is full of great one-liners.  Fun, light hearted entertainment.  Love the changing size of the font which adds to the quirky nature of this book.  Tom Jellet's illustrations really fit the nature of the book.  With a hand drawn quality to them, he really captures the facial expressions ... personal favourite is 'the eye roll', outlined in 4 steps, a perfect reaction to the latest dad joke.

Children don't always get humour straight away, but there's plenty for everyone is this book. My five year old's personal favourite?

"Whenever I go swimming, Dad says,'Try not to get wet!' "

... should I be worried that he found that so funny?!  A future dad in the making I think!

I am going to buy this for one of my friends who is about to become a dad for the first time - I can hear the laughs already. It's the perfect addition to our Father's Day list.

Enjoy!

Definitely FUNNY!

This book was perfect for our family as dad often tries to act funny just like the dad in the book. A great read for light hearted fun, good to snuggle up and read together as a family.

For my boys!

My 5 1/2 yr old son LOVES this book!

I have to admit that it is not something I would normally choose and it gave me a reminder and insight into the kind of books that appeal to my middle child. What I like about it was that is gave the boys a shared experience and filtered into other conversations and role-play.

It is interesting in terms of opening discussion of words having more than one meaning and definately encourages an endless curiosity into language and story-telling in the everyday.

Should I Really Be Laughing?

The boys and I groan audibly too when our Dad cracks his Dad jokes, like when I say I ran into Joe today." and he replies "Did it hurt?" So I felt a sense of betrayal for laughing all the way through this book. Mostly because our rule is don't laugh at Dad's jokes - it just encourages him. Trouble is he read this book to the boys and now he has more ammunition.
