"pop" the little caterpillar hatches from his egg and goes on the search for something to fill his tummy.
"on Monday he ate" ... and so it goes through the days of the week, counting the food, (educational: check!), until he gets to the end of the week and goes for a mammoth feast! My children love listing the food along with me "one slice of salami ... "
The little holes in each piece of food make this ideal as an interactive story for little ones ... and if they are quite eager, then yes, the board book version may just last a little bit longer!
My favourite page ... when you turn over to reveal he has emerged as a beautiful butterfly, ( sorry, should I have added a spoiler alert?!).
This was one of the first books I read to my children when they were really very young, Eric Carle's books are good for that. Simple. Fun.
