Stick Man

How many different things can you do with a stick?  Poor stick man finds out when he becomes separated from his family!

With the quirky humour and wit characteristic of the author of 'The Gruffalo', this picture book follows the adventures of the poor stick man as he ends up in all sorts of places.  All he wants to do is get back to his family - his 'Stick Lady love and their stick children three.'  Your children may never look at a stick in quite the same way again - this is a great one for the imagination.

This is definitely one of My Book Corner's favourites from Julia Donaldson, UK Children's Laureate 2010-2011, it's a must for all book corners.

Enjoy!

Sensitive yet powerful

When I first read this book to my 6yo she actually cried! I didn't realise she was so sensitive, but was also proud to see the profound effect reading had on her. I for one was happy that she would hopefully turn out to be like her mum who'd rather read a book and cry over it than a movie ;) She often takes it to show and tell at school as it's one of her favourite books, and even though she has moved on to chapter books now, this is still one of the few that she still treasures.

Stickman

Stick man is a family favourite. It's classic Donaldson / scheffler with adventure, scary bits, rhyming and a happy ending. After a few readings you'll find yourself saying "I am, I am, I'm a stick man I am!". Very good all year round but the story works well for Chrissie present. Highly recommended.

Another favourite from Julia Donaldson

Not all of the Julia Donaldson's work for me - but this is one that does. The rhythm of the text carries you along on the Stick Man's journey...and the surprise appearance by Santa is a lovely little twist in the tale, probably part of the reason we always return to this book!

Top Read

This book has long been a favourite for me and my son since he was about 18 months old. The rhyming is perfect and the illustrations are very engaging. The whole story is really fun and has a beautiful ending.
